  Carry Me

When darkness of times descends, when I am hopeless, lost, and farthest from you,

comes the comfort of assurance that you will carry me through.

When mundane struggles threaten to impede and to mire,

rise the hope and the knowledge you will carry me higher.

When my knees buckle in burdens, so each step weighs, an increasing endeavor,

I’ll run yet again, for you will carry me forever.

When temptations besiege my strength, when I can no longer hold it bay,

when the sweat drops like bloodlets in my weakness, you will carry me away.

When sin entangles my flesh so that my soul cries to be unwound,

comes the gentle pressure of bent shoulder as you carry me unbound.

When the seas of grief rise and I drown in the depths of inconsolable loss,

swept by incapacitating waves of hurt, I am lifted. You carry me across.

When my last breath is hushed, my whispery life, now unfettered and alone,

in that moment of a final felt heartbeat, you will carry me home.
